Volunteer Information

Here is a list of the different volunteer positions available during our swim meets.  Most meets will run from 5:30AM - 2PM including setup and break down times.  Swim events start at 8AM and run until the meet is finished, no later than 2PM.  The positions listed with event numbers track the progress of the meet and so times will vary but the break between first and second shift happens around 11AM.


Announcer:  (First Shift runs from Event #1 - #43, second shift is Event #44 - #82)

Use the PA system to announce the events and swimmer names throughout the meet. Make any announcements to the teams of meet conditions.

Clerk of the Course: (First Shift runs from Event #1 - #43, second shift is Event #44 - #82)

Make sure that swimmers are in correct lanes and heats prior to race. Determine if heats will be combined as needed.

Computers:  (First Shift runs from Event #1 - #43, second shift is Event #44 - #82)

Help run the timing system computers.

Equipment Crew:  (Setup Crew arrives at 5:30AM to a home meet and takes 1 - 1.5 hours, Break Down Crew starts once the meet begins to wind down and also takes about 1 - 1.5 hours)

Help unload trailer, setup pop-ups, chairs, tables, and scoreboard.

Ready Bench:  (First Shift runs from Event #1 - #43, second shift is Event #44 - #82)

Confirm swimmer event, heat, and lane assignments before the blocks, herd cats.

Ribbons:  (Done at home after the meet)

Apply timing stickers to ribbons for swimmer awards. This is a take home job and can be done after the meets. You will need to connect with the volunteer coordinator to get the ribbons and timing labels.

Runner:  (First Shift runs from Event #1 - #43, second shift is Event #44 - #82)

Run DQ slips, lane timer sheets, meet results and other items as needed to scoring table.

Snack Bar:  (First Shift runs from Event #1 - #43, second shift is Event #44 - #82)

Help setup snack bar, help run snack bar.

Starter:  (First Shift runs from Event #1 - #43, second shift is Event #44 - #82)

Announcing swimmers to step up & get ready at the blocks and managing the start of each event.

Stroke & Turn Judge:   (First Shift runs from Event #1 - #43, second shift is Event #44 - #82)

Watch for stroke & turn violations. Fill out provided disqualification (DQ) slips. This will be a trained position, there will be training sessions announced and online videos that can be watched for the different types of violations to be noted. 

Timer:  (First Shift runs from Event #1 - #43, second shift is Event #44 - #82)

Time the races, use a stopwatch, record times. 

Whistle Starter:   (First Shift runs from Event #1 - #43, second shift is Event #44 - #82)

Starting of events and stepping up to the starting blocks is announced with a whistle using a simple 1 blow 2 blow pattern. This job will be blowing the whistle next to the starter to assist the swimmers.
